With such light winds, people would have been forgiven for thinking this student windsurf weekend may be a disappointment. But this wasn’t to be, thanks to the superb organisation of Southampton Uni windsurf club and Spot on Water’s Mark Agg-Jones, the event was packed full of action. The weekend started with land windsurfing, on TurfDog land windsurf boards. A freestyle competition was held on the grassy shoreline of Chirstchurch harbour. Adam Sims entertained the spectators with some new skool windsurf moves, which included flakas and even a forward loop! On land! Next up was longboard waveriding, the waves at Avon had picked up to a clean 1-3 foot! Despite the small waves a full wave riding competition was run, the Exocet Kona’s provided by Spot on Water were great for making the most of the conditions. The second day of the event had even less wind but with the waves still present, the action continued with a Stand Up Paddle contest. Many thanks for the support from, Spot on Water, Rrd/Ezzy and Southampton University Windsurf Club for putting together such a fun weekend. The next event, taking place on the Bournemouth beaches is the National Windsurfing Week’s Slalom and Freewave, 3rd-5th May.

The next event in the student windsurfing calendar is at Avon Beach in Bournemouth on the 23rd-24th February. Its the Rrd/Ezzy Wave Jam bringing the best student windsurfers from around the UK to battle it out in the south coast waves. The Avon beach local shop, Spot on Water are sponsoring the event as well as Rrd and Ezzy. Both TurfDog models have been updated for 2008, the Freemove and the Freestyle Pro have a new graphic and more importantly a new construction. The new decks are high temperature compression laminated with impregnated thermosetting resin. This manufacturing process produces a stiffer and lighter deck than before (making the new models 1 kg lighter). The Freemove model has an increased swivel angle on the front wheels, the result of which is improved straight line blasting stability, giving more comfort and control whilst retaining manoeuvrability.
